For Art Licks Weekend 2018, KELDER initiated a collaboration with Fay Nicolson on curating a programme of performance and perception.
‘How can I deny that these hands and this body are mine?’ is a special day of events on Saturday 6 October exploring embodied knowledge and the threshold between performance and perception, placing emphasis on listening as an active process with radical potential.
The programme will consist of a sound walk around the Chapel Market area with Debbie Kent, a performance piece with Lia Mazzari, a listening event with Chooc Ly Tan and Fay Nicolson and a public screening by Richard Forbes-Hamilton.

Debbie Kent is a writer/performer/artist based in London who makes work involving sound, walking and the city, independently and, as the Demolition Project, in collaboration with Russian artist Alisa Oleva. Recent work includes L'Espace de Communication, sound installation in Aulus-les-Bains, France (2018); t/h/reading the labyrinth, an audio walk exploring the lost subways of Elephant & Castle (2018); Zazerkalye, performance/instructions for the Artist's Borderpanic Compendium published by LADA (2018); Blueprint (2017) site-responsive walk for Ural Industrial Biennial in Ekaterinburg, Russia (2017). She is currently researching the soundscapes of urban regeneration in London Docklands for a practice-based PhD.
Lia Mazzari

performance of ‚gutFul‘
Lia Mazzari is an artist who works with sound, environment and performance. In her individual and collaborative work she uses loose structures and an array of instruments including cello, whips and anything else at hand, to create performances and compositions that are at once delicate, harrowing, physical, playful and absurd. As an event curator, she founded Silver Road in 2016, a non-profit arts platform devoted to site-specific and time-based art practises. Recent Artists involved: Farmers Manual, Joe McPhee, Benedict Drew, Aine O’Dwyer, Lina Lapelyte, Path Thomas, Angharad Davies etc. For 'How can I deny these hands and this body are mine?' Lia will present ‚gutFul‘, a work for body, whip and amplified sound.
Chooc Ly Tan

Chooc Ly Tan (fka Spacer Woman/aka Chooc Ly) is an Afro-Asian artist, DJ and voyager, born in France and living in London. Not limited by a specific genre but a penchant for club music. Chooc Ly's DJ sets present a varied selection forging astral connections through spectrums of Techno, Hip Hop, Qgom (house from South Africa) through to fusions we haven’t found names for yet. For 'How can I deny that these hands and this body are mine?' Chooc Ly will share some music that has been influential and important to her, followed by an informal discussion about these pieces and music more generally with Fay Nicolson.
Richard Forbes-Hamilton

Screening of DANCERS at Mercer & Co.
Richard Forbes-Hamilton is an artist whose practice is rooted in ideas around the nature of experience and the resonant image; these ideas are explored through reoccurring motifs including those of the worker and the dancing figure. His recent video collage DANCERS is a personal presentation of material spanning nearly 100 years; a collection of images and videos of dancers that have inspired and at times been directly referenced in his other work. Richard also makes music as Higher Learning and is an Honorary Research Associate at the Slade School of Fine Art from 2017–19.
